For my birthday last month my oldest son as a representative of the family gave me my favorite kind of moleskine, which I proceeded to defile with mostly pen, brush pen and prismacolor. This is a small sampling of some of my favorite pages. I posted the entire book on google+ so go look at it there.
In other news the Phantom Skull will return shortly. the end of that story is near and I want it to be a sincere barn burner.

The two images below are for the HUB Comics benefit art show that will be up next month at Bloc 11 in Union Square, Somerville. HUB comics owner James Welborn passed away recently and the comic and art community in Union Square set up an art show, and charity auction with all proceeds going to James' son Max, These are my offerings, 6 x 6 on bristol board, ink and marker wash. Soon to be framed. The show will be up for two weeks, starting June 28th and ending July 10th with an event at Bloc 11 and HUB comics. You should check it out.

More over I longed for the days when the ethereal heads of presidents floated above the city admonishing all of our bad habits...

Below are episodes 11-13 of The Phantom Skull. Next week should get us all caught up and the week after that-NEW EPISODES! The story is solidly back on track and heading into the final stages.
Also, the drawing seen here of Grace Morgan our currently pink pajama'd slightly headstrong and thoroughly perplexed love interest of The Phantom Skull is by animation student Joel Burgos. He gave this to me more than a year ago and has been bugging me for new Skull episodes every time I see him.

THE RETURN OF THE PHANTOM SKULL
It's been about two years since I started this story. It got put on hiatus due to major turn of events on the domestic family front. I never intended to quit, and I have planned and re-planned how it is all going to play out. I originally posted the first fifteen installments I believe. Last night I lettered the 20th, and began laying out the 21st. The original fifteen have been formatted for the day this eventually gets printed and bound. I'm reposting the whole thing from the beginning in fits and starts to get everyone back into it. Below are the first four. Every week I'll throw up some more and eventually we'll get back to caught up and on with the new pages.
I also started a facebook group for The Phantom Skull, you should join or like it or whatever it one does with that sort of thing. I think you can find it by going here...

Getting back to my roots as a storyboard artist. I started out doing boards for advertising agencies, working on television spots and pitches for campaigns. Eventually moved into animation working with flash and storyboarding for a lot of multimedia shops in Seattle, and eventually Portland as a full time board artist. Sidetracked by illustration, animation, kids, comic attempts and all the rest. Now however I'm working my way back into it, so if anyone needs boards, knows someone who does, or has suggestions, don't be bashful give me a shout.

HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL...
I really completely forget to post a lot of things I should like work and so forth on this site. So, in an effort to fix that, here you go.
Last summer I spent a little over three months drawing a ton of comics for an online interactive version of the board game Clue. Hasbro took a serpentine route to hire local interactive educational game folks 360Kid to make a version of the game for their new Hub launch. 360Kid hired me and my friend and art director Dave McMahon told me to draw "100 Bullets meets Tintin", which is the best art direction I've ever gotten. The game was apparently going to launch in October, and they seemed pleased with it. There are a lot of final pages made for each character and dozens and dozens of alternate situations that could crop up for a player, and tons of incidental things I made for it as well. These images are just some final art samples from before the type was added.
As you can expect, all the artwork is copyright Hasbro.

When I find some of the first round rejected stuff I will throw that up as well.

And also, I did some really rough redesigning of the .com version of Honolulu Dogfight. Overall it's coming together, but I made the address all finicky for some reason, so click on this or watch how you type it in, it doesn't need the www Can't figure out why. Go anyway and enjoy some small portfolio pieces and broken links.

I got seriously bummed awhile back when the iPad came out. I grew up on Macs and was hoping they would pioneer the new sleek art tablet instead of a slim netflix/amazon shopping cart. I couldn't believe their new tablet didn't have a pen or support industry standard programs. So with the advice of Chad Essley at cartoonmonkey.com (you should totally visit), I got some pc tablet info. Then a fellow faculty member at school offered to sell me his laptop tablet pc for a steal. I jumped on it and my work flow tripled. Drawing on the screen in portable fashion is the only way to go.

AHH THE SWEET REJECTION...
I recently was given the okay to post some of the rejected designs for a current freelance job that is rapidly coming to a close. These were the initial character designs I came up with and some illustrations of the settings, backgrounds etc. Ultimately they were not approved and a new approach was taken. All in all, this has been the longest comic book type project I've ever done and when I can I will show you some actual finished art.
